The Social Justice Committee serves as the community services arm of Saint John the Baptist Church. The Social Justice Committee works closely with Catholic Community Services for the Gift of the Drummer Program at Christmas, the collection of personal toiletry items in "Easter Bags"; for the needy at Easter, and we regularly support requests for the emergency assistance programs administered by Catholic Community Services.
Food Pantry Chest
This is an ongoing collection of non-perishable food items to stock our parish Food Pantry for our families in need, and to support the Food Pantry at Catholic Community Services. We ask that you bring your donations each week, when you come to Mass, and put them in our Food Pantry Chest.
Going Green Ministry
The Going Green Ministry focuses on being a good steward of God’s creation. We recognize that justice for the environment is inseparable from justice for the poor, and promote actions that leave the world livable for all. We had a number of activities ranging from a Taize Prayer Service to reflect on the importance of God’s creation, to promoting local food by planting vegetables, to an energy audit, which lead to a reduction in the parish’s energy use. We also have a recycling center in the Gathering Space where you can drop off used ink cartridges, cell phones and eye glasses. If you are interested in the Going Green Ministry, please contact Margret Posch, 801-571-9166 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org or
Meals on Wheels
A group of volunteers at Saint John the Baptist parish delivers complete meals during the lunch hour, Monday through Friday, to several senior citizens in the Draper area. The program is run by Salt Lake County Aging Services, who provide administration of the program and prepare and package the meals. The county delivers the 5 to 12 meals for our area each weekday to the kitchen located in our Parish office. Our Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver the meals to the seniors sometime between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. With time for visiting and fellowship, the route generally takes about one hour. Training is available. If you would like to help with this wonderful program, please call parish office for an application, 801-984-7109.
The Saint Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen
Our parish is involved with this program once a month.
The Pro-Life Ministry provides Saint John the Baptist parishioners opportunities to defend and support life, from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death.
